Summer Is Over

Last week we took a trip up the California central coast (Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo, Hearst Castle) for a 4-day getaway. This was our first and only summer breather due to Jamaica's intense summer school schedule.

This week is also the start of the new school semester for both of us. I'm taking a history and biology class and Jamaica is continuing her graduate work at Claremont.

Brad's Mom Recovering Well

Yesterday, my mom (Ann) had surgery to remove hernia as well as a tumor on her liver. The hernia has been bothering her for the past two years and when last checked, doctors also found a tumor on her liver. The past month or so has been a bit flustered as the family prepared emotionally for the process of surgery, which is never something you look forward to.

The good news is that the tumor was benign. No cancer! The hernia has also been removed. She is recovering now in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and should be back home in a few days.

Happy Anniversary to Us

Brad & JamaicaYesterday we celebrated our third wedding anniversary. We ate dinner at the once famous Yamashiro restaurant in the hills of Hollywood overlooking much of LaLa land. We had a very nice evening together. I love this girl a lot.

Three years seems so wimpy, so immature, so naive. People go to to college for more than three years (sometimes three or four times that amount). Kids can't even be left alone when they're three years old. A tree that is three years old is usually pretty unimpressive.

Doing the Right Thing

When is doing the right thing ever wrong? Does providing for the family come after or before doing what is right? When the issue is not about integrity or morality but about rightness and responsibility, which fork in the road is the correct one to take? Perhaps the route where faith is needed more could serve as the guide?

God Loves Stories

Filed under: God, Faith & Spirituality

Jesus' use of parables in the New Testament continues to draw parallels to present day story telling. Using the arts - theater, photography, movies, books, and more - generation after generation have continued to take the lead from the Master Storyteller who walked the earth over two thousand years ago. It frustrates me greatly how only recently (within the last one hundred years) Christians - "little christs" - have lost the lead in the use of communication mediums. While I do believe this will only be a short blip on the historical timeline of Christianity screw-ups, I do think its implications are calamitous.

Starbucks, the Date That Was Not

StarbucksEvery once in a while, Jamaica gets a hankering for finding and using coupons. This past week was no exception when she came upon quite the prize: Starbucks coupons! And more than just one, there were several winners. "Free beverage with the purchase of another." "Free drink (any kind, any size) with purchase of a pastry." "Free drink of your choice." We thought the end of the world had to be close because Starbucks has coupons!

Not so fast.
