Year End Reflection, 2006
I ended my day last Friday (December 22) and checked out of work for the remainder of the year. For the most part, I have been unplugged with the occasional email clearing. So many others are off too which makes it a pretty light week. Jamaica and I enjoyed Christmas in Los Angeles, our second time since being married that it was just the two of us. It was quite nice! We took a trip to the ocean to watch the sunset. If we can't have the cold and snow we might as well relish what we do have!
We attended a funeral just outside of Bakersfield on Wednesday, before driving up to Mendocino (150 miles northeast of San Francisco on the coast) that same day. I am sitting in a little Bed & Breakfast, just a block from the ocean. We arrived late Wednesday night to a complete ghost town - not a light in sight. Come to find out a huge wind storm had knocked out the power 12 hours earlier. Fortunately, the outage was fixed by the morning.
Jamaica and I have been reflecting and re-setting these past few days. Long walks along the cliff-riden ocean is a perfect backdrop for this type of conversation. A highlight of our time:
- Reviewed our strengths from the book, Now, Discover Your Strengths. We took a look at our strengths side-by-side, and created some questions and statements that we can both look at over the year so as to really leverage our individual and collective potential.
- Created my reading list for 2007. I've limited it to twelve books so that I can make room for others that will pop up along the way.
- Revised, updated and expanded my daily prayer for 2007 (to be posted later). I did this last year as well and it really helped.
- Scheduled two "spiritual" retreats for me and Jamaica in 2007 -- one in the spring and one in the fall.
- We also discussed our church involvement, charitable giving and a handful of other topics.
Before heading back to Los Angeles we were able to squeeze in a horseback ride at sunset, a trip to the spa, and dinner with some longtime family friends.
Here comes 2007...
